Kelly Riddle
Hostess
How long have you been working at Fifteen Cornwall?
Almost 2 years.
What are your responsibilities?
When I’m hostessing my responsibilities are to meet, greet & seat guests, explain layout of the menu, take payments, organise taxis & assist manager with the cash up. When I’m waitressing I have a number of tables to look after in a section. I go through the menu with the diners to ensure they fully understand each dish, before taking their orders. I feel I’m responsible for making their evening an enjoyable experience. I like my service to compliment the high standard of the food that we serve.
Describe briefly, a typical day at work?
As hostess, when I arrive my first jobs are to check the toilets, tidy hostess/arrival & bar seating area. If appropriate I will then make sure I have coat hangers ready. I attend the pre service briefing, noting special payments/requirements. Once the guests start arriving, I greet them, if appropriate take coats, then seat them using the table plan. During service I help with running food & drink as well as helping waitresses polish cutlery/crockery & fold napkins. If we have table relays I will either coordinate the guests waiting at the bar area or take payments and re-lay the tables then collect the guests waiting at the bar seating area & take them to their table. I take payments from departing tables, organise taxis and where appropriate hand over items the guests have left in the cloak room. Once all the payments have been made I will then help the manager with the evening cash up.
